Nickels

Introduced in 1866 as a replacement for the silver half dime, the copper-nickel five cent piece soon became a staple of America's coinage. Over the years the US mint has produced nickels with the Shield, Liberty, Buffalo, and Jefferson designs. Each series offers a connection to earlier times in US history, and has better dates for the collector to hunt.
